Warnayaka Arts Centre

When friends of the Warlpiri come to visit Lajamanu, we often stay in the Warnayaka Art Centre. Every day the elders come in to paint, to share their stories and to teach culture to young people. The idea for the Kurdiji 1.0 app was born at Warnayaka Arts Centre, where so many paintings show the familiar markings of the Kurdiji symbol.

This video gives a little glimpse into this extraordinary cultural centre and gallery – one of the most remote in the world – and the beautiful people who paint there. Those of you who have followed our photographs will recognise some of the elders we are working with – especially Jerry Jangala Patrick with his signature hat.
