Gayili Marika Yunupingu

Gayili Marika Yunupingu has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the National Indigenous Human Rights Awards, for her work in suicide prevention. The award was presented to her by Bonita Mabo, wife of the late land rights advocate Eddie Mabo.

“I take my hat off to everyone who’s fighting to maintain their connection to country — because without country, who are we?”

(Gail Mabo, daughter of Eddie Mabo)

We congratulate Gayili Yunupingu for her incredible work in East Arnhem Land, and support her plan to establish a healing camp for young Indigenous people. Many people are alive today because of her selfless actions and we consider her one of Aboriginal Australia’s great champions.
